Croatia is a country in South-eastern Europe at the Balkans, and the Adriatic Sea. Its capital and largest city is Zagreb. However, I didn’t visit Zagreb but I went right to the amazing coast to spend a fabulous week during Ester holiday with one of my best friends I’ve met in Erasmus, Magda. It was such an excited trip because we went there without any organized plan. We stayed at houses of other Croatian students as us so we could learn a little bit more about their culture and their parties, of course. I do not have enough words to describe this wonderful country, but I hope you enjoy some of the pictures I took.
The main placed we stayed at where Zadar and Split but we travel around some little villages near this two main cities like Filip I Jalov, Primošten or Omiš (where we climbed a mountain). We also went to Hvar island and the main natural park of Croatia: Plitvička Jezera, but I’m going to talk about these two places in future posts.
I was impressed about Split, at first I thought it was just a city where there were the ferries for going to numerous surrounding Adriatic islands, but it is such a beautiful city and also one of the oldest cities in the area. Split is traditionally considered just over 1,700 years old, while archaeological research relating to the ancient Greek colony of Aspálathos (6th century BC) establishes the city as being several hundred years older. I was impressed by the Diocletian’s Palace and by the buildings of succeeding historical periods built within its walls, which today form the heart of old Split.
If you go there, don’t forget to try some of its delicious fish and sea food, we also tried pršut (meat similar to Serrano ham), cheese from Pag, the fastfood ‘Burek’, red wine from Plavac, white wine and olive oil home-made (one of our hosts had a country-side house where his family do it) and Rakija (we tried in a pub with other Croatian friends, it is an alcoholic beverage that is produced by distillation of fermented fruit; it is a popular beverage throughout the Balkans).

Btw... Enjoy the photos!! :)

Photos from Croatian coast: travelling from Zadar to Split doing hitch-hiking and going to Omiš.
I really would like to go back to Croatia, next time I would like to go to the capital: Zagreb and to Dubrovnik, the coolest city of Croatian coast. I also would like to visit more the little Adriatic islands and of course to go back there during summer!!!
